It tries — from the donation side. Austin Resource Recovery's on-demand bulk program doesn't serve West Campus: the towers and converted houses are on private hauling contracts, so there's no city pickup for residents here to request. What the city runs instead is MoveOutATX — donation stations placed around campus during the lease turn, which have diverted as much as 249 tons of reusable goods in a single season. That number tells you everything about the scale of what happens here every August.
MoveOutATX is genuinely worth using for what it's built for: clean, carryable items, walked to a station during its operating dates. What it can't do is carry a futon down three flights on the 30th, take a stained mattress at all, or empty an apartment the morning of a walkthrough. The building's bin corral can't either — that's a bill-back — and the curb is a violation waiting for a photo.
We're the full-service half of the answer: the heavy, the bulky, the last-minute and the whole-apartment, carried down and routed to the same donation streams the city champions.
August in West Campus is the most donatable week on the Austin calendar and we route it that way: sound furniture, futons, desks and fridges to Goodwill Central Texas and the Austin Furniture Bank — the same reuse streams MoveOutATX feeds — with receipts to whoever paid. Metal lofts and frames go to scrap recovery, electronics and mini fridges to e-waste and refrigerant-safe processing, and only the genuinely spent goes to disposal.
One deadline rules everything. The July 31 lease cliff compresses the year into ten days — we pre-stage crews, run evening slots, and treat the last week of July like Black Friday. Two building types, two playbooks: the old houses off Rio Grande and Nueces are stair carries (no fee, ever); the newer towers on 24th and Guadalupe run service elevators and sometimes dock windows — name the building and we handle its mechanics. The May wave at graduation is smaller but real, and the same machine covers it. Parents are half the bookings — remote booking, remote payment, receipt to the family inbox is a first-class flow, not a workaround. And parking is tribal knowledge: crews know which alleys load and which tow, so the truck never costs you your slot.
